Excelsior Phase One: Lysandia is the first in a series of role-playing games designed in the spirit of the iconic Ultima games. Excelsior combines the look and feel of classic role-playing games with an intricate story line.

In Excelsior Phase One: Lysandia, you take on the role of a "Fixer," under the employ of the Grand Council of World Watchers - the dieties who created and oversee the multiverse. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of the many worlds of the multiverse, history is predetermined by the Watchers. Occasionally, however, something goes awry and history veers off its planned course. It is the job of the Fixer - donning an appropriate guise - to travel to the world in question and set history back on course.

Lysandia has for generations been a prosperous land and its ruler, King Valkery, is immensely popular. Popular, that is, until he abruptly underwent a startling personality shift and began behaving erratically. Terrible monsters were unleashed. The citizens are in panic. The cause of the King's madness is a mysterious chaotic entity that has taken control of his mind. Donning the guise of a normal townsperson, you, the Fixer, must find and vanquish this chaotic entity from Lysandia and restore the benevolent King to power...

Excelsior Phase One is a throwback to classic RPGs, and features:

  • An intricate and intelligent plot.
  • More than 140 unique items, including many varieties of weapons and armor.
  • More than 100 types of monsters and townpeople.
  • Hundreds of individuals with whom to converse.
  • A complex and unique magic system with 35 spells.
  • Over 30 cities, villages, huts, dungeons, and keeps to explore.
  • An estimated play time of 30 hours!

The game download also includes:

  • A 68 page Manual filled with information about Lysandia, including a complete spell list.
  • An 80 page Hint Book containing a complete walkthrough, maps of all locations, weapons and armor statistics, and much more!

This is the first game I ever bought with my own money as a kid. My parents thought I was crazy: I asked them to send a money order for my allowance from Winnipeg, Canada to some random address I think in the USA. Eventually I got the hint book, registration code, and a black and white map and beat it. I also learned to debug memory addresses to cheat later. I've lost all those since but just wanted to say thanks for the memories and nostalgia++.

Could you throw in the registered Dos versions of the game (both version 1.0 and 2.0), as I want to play those through Dosbox

Yes if you register on here and then email me at matt@excelsior-rpg.com I'll send you the DOS version.  I know v. 2.0 works but I can't promise that 1.0 will work or that I'll be able to generate a registration code for it.

I just tried to buy this, but got a "the payment can't be completed" error from Paypal. I got a friend to try and he had the same problem.

Hi, something seems to be not working with our PayPal account.  We haven't had this issue before and I'm looking into it now.  You might try to buy the product from our website, www.excelsior-rpg.com.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Same problem here, I can't purchase it through PayPal. I'd purchase it on your website but it's not the same price there.

Hi there, I think I figured out what the problem was with paying through PayPal on here.  It should be working now, if you are still interested.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

Great to hear! And yes, I'm still interested. :)
